Seminar on lighting for SPbGASU students

22 december 2023
Power system designers are often faced with the task of designing lighting. They know how to take into account the requirements of regulatory documents, draw up drawings and lay cable lines. But each object requires an individual approach, the choice of lighting devices not only based on industry norms and state standards. It is necessary to take into account the architecture of the room and, of course, modern trends in lighting design and LED technology.

How can a designer take into account the wishes of an architect, designer, what does the process of designing lighting systems look like today? We talked about this with students of the St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering (SPbGASU) as part of the “Immersion in Light” project.

The program was built individually and agreed upon with Dmitry Vladimirovich Gorlatov, associate professor of the department of building physics, power engineering and electrical engineering.

The six-hour seminar was divided into two theoretical parts and a practical lesson.

The first one talked about the basics of lighting design, light quantities and units, lighting devices and their parameters.

The staff of the training center devoted the second part to the issues of choosing lighting devices for various objects. How to take into account the requirements of standards and the architecture of the room, in which case you need to choose built-in, pendant or surface-mounted lamps.
The practical block was entirely devoted to working in the DIALux evo program. Under the guidance of certified DIALux trainer Denis Savelyev, the students independently built an office building, installed lamps linked to the grid of the Armstrong ceiling system, and calculated the project.
It’s amazing how quickly young specialists absorb newly acquired knowledge.Evgeniy Burdaev, head of the training center, associates this primarily with the practical orientation of the information, demonstrating not abstract examples, but live company projects and implemented cases. Such experience is immediately adopted by a young talented mind, because in the future the learned algorithm of actions will have to be translated into a real project more than once.
The Lighting Technologies company thanks Dmitry Gorlatov for his assistance in organizing the training and hopes for further cooperation with SPbGASU.
