Almetyevsk, known as the pearl of Tatarstan, is also rightfully called the cycling capital of Russia. The cyclists gave this title to Almetyevsk for the creation of a network of bike lanes. The city authorities decided not to wait for traffic jams and not to follow someone else's mistakes with the expansion of streets and the construction of parking lots at the squares. Instead, they decided to encourage residents to choose a compact bike as a means of transport. The authorities hired a team of professionals from Copenhagen to prepare a project of bike lanes throughout the city. Thanks to the implemented project, the well-known blogger Ilya Varlamov called Almetyevsk one of the coolest cities in Russia (his report provides a lot of photos that also show what kind of lighting is implemented in the city).
