Food industry enterprises are characterized by a wide range of products, and therefore a variety of technological processes, which, in turn, determine the specific requirements for lighting equipment.

Depending on technological processes, production facilities can be characterized by high humidity, the presence of chemically aggressive substances (acid esters, lactates, formaldehyde, etc.), various temperature conditions. To function in the described conditions, the luminaires must have a degree of protection against dust and moisture of at least IP54, resistance to chemically aggressive environments, meet the requirements of fire and explosion safety in accordance with the category of the room. In particular, special explosion-proof equipment should be installed in production flour and pasta shops.

Lighting equipment used in food processing shops is subject to increased sanitary requirements. There must be no bolts or other protruding elements on the surfaces of the luminaires that contribute to the accumulation of dust, and the optical part of the luminaires must be suitable for treatment with disinfectants. In addition, the design of lighting devices should exclude the risk of fragments falling in case of damage. This is especially important in areas with open production processes.
