basic principles of lighting

Not so long ago, a monofunctional approach dominated the lighting of office spaces - the only task of the lighting installation was to meet the hygienic requirements for the light environment. But today, lighting is becoming more and more human-oriented - light controls our biorhythms and emotions, helps to navigate in time and space, increase the efficiency of the work process and recreation. Thus, our physiological and psychological comfort directly depends on the quality of lighting.

the role of lighting in office space
Today, employers understand that creating a comfortable working environment (where, as follows from the above, lighting plays a significant role) is one of the forms of investment in personnel, therefore, when building modern office facilities, great attention is paid to the organization of the working space as a whole - its ergonomics, design, architectural and planning solutions are combined into a single concept, the success of which largely depends on the quality of interaction between all project participants.
design approaches
One of the most important factors in lighting in an office environment is visual comfort, which consists of three components: visual performance, perception of the room and personal well-being. These parameters, in turn, depend on the ergonomics of the space, which is largely determined by the qualitative and quantitative indicators of lighting.

The level of illumination is the main quantitative characteristic of any light environment. The intensity of lighting directly affects the degree of visual comfort of office employees, their performance and productivity. Both Russian and European standards strictly regulate the levels of illumination for office spaces. According to Russian standards, the minimum allowable level of illumination on the work surface is 400 lux.

Color temperature is also an important characteristic of lighting, the selection of which must be taken very seriously. The color of lighting can affect a person's biorhythms, his hormonal balance and psycho-emotional state. The wrong choice of color temperature can lead to increased fatigue and deterioration in the well-being of office workers. The optimal value of color temperature for lighting office spaces is 4000 K.

[HTML] The absence of light pulsation is an important indicator of a quality lighting solution. Sometimes even not visually perceived pulsations have a strong influence on the human body, which, in turn, affects the productivity of work. In SP 52.13330.2016, this parameter is limited to 15% for general purpose rooms and 5% for rooms where work with computer equipment is expected.

The color rendering index of the light source ensures the correct perception of the color of human skin and the colors used in the decoration of the room, in comparison with natural light. The higher the color rendering index, the more accurately the color of the object is perceived. SP 52.13330.2016 establishes a minimum CRI value of 80 for office premises with permanent human presence.

Glare on a work surface or computer monitor negatively affects the visual perception of information, increases the load on the organs of vision and leads to a decrease in concentration. The parameter that characterizes the glare effect of a lighting installation is called the combined discomfort index (UGR). According to SP 52.13330.2016, UGR should not exceed 14 for computer rooms and 21 for other types of office spaces.
